Awards and
competitions, other than the Stanley Gibbons Award, were founded in memory of
former members of the Society. Competitions THE
SYDNEY RAINE COMPETITION is awarded
for a display of postal history (in its broadest sense). Entries are limited
to a maximum of 9 sheets. THE
STANLEY GIBBONS SALVER is awarded
for a display of stamps. Used stamps may be included, provided they are
included as examples and not as illustrations of cancellations or other
postal markings. Covers and postcards may not be included. Entries are
limited to a maximum of 9 sheets. THE
LACEY CUP for SOCIAL PHILATELY.
Social philately is defined as the study of social systems and products which
derive from the operation of postal systems. Social philately exhibits may
include material currently accepted in other philatelic categories, other
material linked to the postal system being studied and collateral material
relevant to the chosen social theme. Entries are limited to a maximum of 9
sheets. GRINDALL
CUP for OPEN PHILATELY. "Open
Competition" entries can include combinations of philatelic material
encompassed by any of the traditional categories or definition. The winner of
this "Open Competition" will be decided by a popular vote of
members present on the night. Entries are limited to a maximum of 16 sheets. THE
STEPHENSON STOBBS THEMATIC COMPETITION
is awarded for a thematic display consisting of up to 16 sheets maximum. The
exhibit should tell a complete story, illustrated by postage stamps,
postcards and or postal history. Awards THE
LA TROBE MEDAL is the Society's premier award for a display of stamps, postal history or
both. It must occupy a full evening with a maximum of 120 sheets (including
any maps or other associated material). THE
ARTHUR MANLEY CUP is awarded for Philatelic research. Judges will invite entries from
members known to have carried out research and award the Manley Cup to the
entry which is the most outstanding example of research, either original or
in the form of an intensive study. |
